Flexible Covers
Softcover notebooks use a flexible printed cover with an appropriate binding, rather than separate rigid board panels. Decide whether the cover wraps an adhesive spine, joins a sewn block or forms a stapled booklet. These constructions respond differently to page count and opening requirements, even if their outside dimensions match.

Grain and Scoring
Paperboard gsm alone does not describe bending behaviour. Grade, grain, coating and scores affect whether a cover opens smoothly or cracks at the spine. Flaps and pockets may interfere with the block. Artwork crossing the spine needs a final measurement after paper and binding are fixed; a placeholder spine can misplace lettering.

Writing Spread
Open the sample on a desk and inspect access near the gutter. Check trimming, cover alignment and attachment at the first and final leaves. Thin stapled booklets and thick adhesive-bound notebooks require different acceptance checks. Specify the actual fastening method instead of assuming every flexible cover delivers the same writing experience.

Manufacturing & Assembly
Inner-page artwork and pagination are approved before printing and collation. Cover conversion, binding and finishing follow the selected format.
Trim alignment, page order, cover creasing and binding security.

Packaging & Protection
Pack soft covers flat with support against bending. Protect the spine and corners, especially where printed or coated surfaces contact adjacent books.
Record the unit pack, pack quantity, carton dimensions and label positions. Check a packed sample with the intended contents before approving the shipment arrangement.

What to Check
Trim alignment, page order, cover creasing and binding security.
Lightweight journals, workbooks and branded stationery.
Record the reference contents, inspection method and acceptance criteria with the approved sample.
Buyer Question
Is softcover another name for Wire-O?
No. Softcover describes the cover; Wire-O describes the binding. Include the mechanism explicitly if exposed twin-loop binding is required.
