Rigid Covers
A hardcover notebook has board panels connected by a spine and hinges, with pages attached through the selected binding and endpapers. The cover exceeds trimmed page size by an agreed overhang. Derive the case outline, board caliper and spine from the actual block rather than choosing them independently from a cover illustration.

Block Thickness
One physical leaf has two page faces. Record both sheets and pages. Paper gsm describes mass per area, while caliper and binding determine block thickness. Ribbons, endpapers and pockets also contribute. A5 is 148 x 210 mm at the trimmed page; it does not define the outside case or spine width.

Opening Behaviour
Sewn and adhesive-bound blocks behave differently at the hinge. Evaluate first, middle and final spreads, including ribbons and elastic. Inspect page attachment, cover alignment, endpapers and gutter access. Do not promise a notebook lies flat solely because it has a hard cover; the binding must support the required opening behaviour.

Manufacturing & Assembly
Inner-page artwork and pagination are approved before printing and collation. Cover conversion, binding and finishing follow the selected format.
Page sequence, cover alignment, hinge movement and binding attachment.

Packaging & Protection
Protect the case corners and page edges. Keep ribbon markers and elastic closures neatly positioned so they cannot dent neighbouring covers.
Record the unit pack, pack quantity, carton dimensions and label positions. Check a packed sample with the intended contents before approving the shipment arrangement.

What to Check
Page sequence, cover alignment, hinge movement and binding attachment.

Buyer Question
Is A5 the finished hardcover size?
