Process

The selected route is recorded against the approved product construction.

Board preparationComponents are cut to the approved construction.
Wrapping & liningWrap and lining are positioned around the cover components.
AssemblyFinished cases move to mechanism fitting or final assembly.

Case Construction

A turned-edge case starts with a layout of board panels, joints, wrap and lining. The panel dimensions depend on the article inside: a binder mechanism, book block, drawer or presentation insert imposes different clearances. Establish the finished outside envelope and usable inside space separately. A reference picture can explain appearance, but the approved drawing needs the layer build-up and joint positions.

Board and Wrap

Board thickness should be recorded in millimetres, with grade and any grammage requirement. Wrap and lining need their own material records. Grain, surface coating and adhesive compatibility affect how the wrap behaves around corners and hinges. A foil or heavily finished area that looks acceptable flat may change after folding, so review it on a formed case before accepting a production reference.

Assembly Approval

First review the wrapped case for squareness, corner closure, exposed board, bubbles and panel flatness. Then fit the intended hardware or contents and check the working hinge. Downstream riveting, packing pressure or a tightly fitted insert can alter the final result. Keep both appearance and functional acceptance points in the approval record; neither stage replaces inspection of the complete article.

Factory Review

Request the proposed board-cutting, wrapping, pressing, lining and fitting sequence for your construction. Confirm which steps are performed at the manufacturing site and identify any outside process in the quotation. A visit or controlled production evidence should show the relevant operation and its checks, not merely finished sample displays. Machine inventory and output rates require project-specific confirmation before they become purchase-order assumptions.

Specification

Project Inputs

Board dimensions, wrap and lining, hinge layout and approved finish.

Send a drawing or reference sample alongside quantity and delivery requirements. Material compatibility, applicable finishes and any subcontracted operations are confirmed during quotation.

Inspection

Process Checks

Corners, edges, spine formation and hinge movement.

Agree the reference sample and relevant acceptance points before the production run. The finished article is also checked for fit and function after downstream assembly.
